If you want your child/children to love books, here are some ways that have helped me to get my daughter to fall in love with books.

1. Read along with them and read out loud.
Our voice as a parent or a teacher plays a critical role in getting your child/student interested in a book. Be creative. Be fun. Kids love listening to you and your voice. :)
2. Pause.
Take a deep breath. Stop and talk about the illustrations. Talk about how they feel about the story so far. Don't rush to complete the book. Enjoy the time to read one book at time. Quality over Quantity, every time.
3. Pick up books keeping your child's interest in mind.
Do they love dragons or fairies? Do they love books with a lot of illustrations and little words? Do they love reading horror stories? Start with what they like and gradually introduce different topics and genres.
4. Talk about books with other parents and teachers.
Which books are the other kids currently reading? Which books do they recommend? Would they like to swap books with your child? A great way to introduce different books to your child - let them swap books on their own with their friends.
5. Look for kid lit recommendations on social media platforms.
There are many picture book influencers on Instagram, TikTok and twitter. I follow @Maistorybooklibrary on Instagram and love her recommendations.
Check out this link if you interested in book recommendations and reviews before you pick up a book.
6. Visit the library
Visit the library and let the kids pick up a book of their choice. Talk about different genres and topics while you are at the library or a bookstore. This is a great way to get them interested in reading. Visit a bookstore or a library whenever you can.
7. Make reading a sensorial experience whenever you can.
If the book is about nature, go to a park and read the book. Include activities or action wherever you can. Include toys, music and art to make it interesting and engaging. This may feel daunting at first, but it is a great way to bond with your kids.
I'd love to know how you get your child to read more and let us know if you enjoyed reading the post.
Wishing you all a great day.
